Writing

From time to time, I try to write fiction. Of course, there are two problems with this approach: First “Do… or do not. There is no try.” and second “If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot.” But since writing fiction is just a hobby, I do not feel too bad about it. It still helps me improve my academic and professional writing.

Even though writing fiction is just a hobby, I managed get one story published by someone else. In 2012, I took a creative writing course at the University of Ulm. One short story of every participant, written as part of the course, was published in a volume of The Sparrow. Admittedly, that was not particularly difficult.

The published story, Close Call, is based on my grandfather’s experience traveling through Germany to my grandmother right after World War II ended.
